Sophie Salzer is an award- winning German artist and filmmaker. The range of her artistic works includes narrative films, documentaries, performances, light installations and theatrical productions. Her creations reflect on diverse modes of perception and the effects of formal linguistic structure on collective experiences. This reflection extends to questions about the chosen medium of expression itself, she pits tropes and conventions against themselves in order to reveal differences, similarities and points of overlap, as she investigates communicative acts and attitudes. Salzer's films uncover, explore and ultimately expose the fundamental inner workings of contemporary human interaction.
Lives and works in Cologne, Germany. Study of fine arts at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig with Prof. Astrid Klein and at the École Européenne Supérieure d'Art de Bretagne in Brest, France. Postgraduate studies in media arts in the field of screenwriting and directing at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. She realized her graduation film 'The swimmer' with a grant from the Film- and Media Foundation NRW.
